PM burial

As far as burying a stash of p metals in the forrest seems like a great idea.

But what really bugs me is the worry of someone finding it with a metal detector.

Metal detectors nowadays can go 3 feet easily and the bigger the target the deeper it can be detected. And some can go 6feet or better. And these are handheld units.

Any thoughts ?

I've made a fortune using a detector and digging up people's stashes. Find some survivalist types in your area and detect around their place in the early morning hours (3-4 am). Make sure that you wear a large target so that when they shoot your a** it is a clean shot rather than a more painful one that will kill you in a few hours rather than seconds.

This will 'blind' metal detectors to anything below the surface if you have good saturation (think of someone shining a spotlight directly into your eyes). It's not worth the effort for most to dig up an entire area unless they have an idea of what's buried there and are highly motivated to get to it.

Good advice but why bury in the 1st place? Can you make a better spot in your home?

Thats the best place at home. A 2000$ safe inside a concrete foundation, IMO, with a claymire string around it. lol

But outside the home the options are:

safe deposit box
private safe deposit company
with someone else for safe keeping , not
forrest land

Those are the options.

This theory seems like it would work....to the uneducated investor anyway. Before you bury your PMs in the woods, you may want to see what's out there as far as technology and the chance that someone will still be albe to find your stash anyway.

A lot of detectors can discriminate between different typse of metals. They'd be able to virtually ignore the steel shavings around them, or at least emit a different tone from when it hits on a spot containing gold and silver. It was a nice thought though.

Everytime I hear talk of PM burial I'm reminded of that biblical story in which the master goes away and leaves amounts of talents with his servants. The worst one gets a single talent and buries it to keep it while the master is away while the other two use the money to make more.

Ya a great parable. Like God giving us the holy spirit , and after our death did we nurture and grow that spiritual seed in us.

Im sure God understands we need to eat and have some wealth as long as it dosn't become who we are.

Re: PM burial

Other options;

In a pvc pipe buried under a fence post
In a hollowed out fence post
In chain link fence post
In a pond
In a hollowed out tree or log
Inside an old rusty tire and rim
In an antenna mast
In the post of a maibox
A/C ducts
Fake plumbing pipe

I remeber hearing that story to promote fractional reserve banking. The line of thinking went, they spent money that wasn't really theirs but since they were able to pay it back its ok.

I read about an Aussie that drilled holes in his Sail boats keel and filled them with other metal.

Then sailed to the US and had his money with him.

metal with metal is safest.

Why not encase them in concrete under your patio?

I would think about it long and hard before choosing a suitable burial site. After all, a wise man once said, "if you don't hold it, you don't own it." :cool2:

Why not place explosive devices on top of the stash, then as people walk by and see 2 or 3 dead bodies that will probably be a deterrent.

This topic reminds me of:

"There's always money in the banana stand"

I know, just felt like invoking the guy's name. But seriously, I'd think long and hard before burying anything, and for heaven's sake, don't reveal online that you've done so or are planning to. It really doesn't seem like a complicated issue and there have been numerous threads on the subject already anyhow. :withstupi

One of the best shows ever (Arrested Development), along with the BBC Office and Family Guy.:haha:

If anyone hasn't seen these, get them on DVD and watch them with your full, undivided attention.
